A few weeks ago we read an article that the family of a young girl from Kent had two days to come up with the money for their daughter to have a life saving operation. It was something that as a charity we could not ignore and along with our friends at the Red Eagle Foundation we granted the family the £5000 that was required to ensure the operation went ahead.
The operation took place but on Sunday, January 23 but the following day Leilani was placed into intensive care after becoming really ill due to complications with her chest drain. She also suffered a tear in one of her blood vessels during the surgery and is now on a special diet for the next four to six weeks as she recovers.
Leilani is now home and this week Dominic Comins, Chair of the Kent Wish Foundation and Wayne Hodgson, Chair of the Red Eagle Foundation visited Leilani and her family at their home to see how she was getting on.
Wayne Hodgson said "It was fantastic to meet Leilani and her family today and to see how brave she has been after such a traumatic last week with the surgery. It is hard to believe that just a week ago she was in intensive care. She is a fighter"
As part of the visit, the charities took round a large toy hamper for Leilani to enjoy.
Dominic Comins added "We wanted to make sure Leilani had something nice to play with after everything she has been through. We know the fight is not over for her and the family and more funds need to be raised for further operations and so our charity is going to donate 25% of the funds raised at our 5K Colour and Foam run directly to the family to help with their appeal"
